Asgard's finest warrior
Sif grew up alongside Thor and Loki in Asgard, and she fought her way into a warrior culture that did not expect a woman to lead its battles. By the time Thor begins, she is one of the realm's most respected fighters, riding into danger with the Warriors Three and trading blows with frost giants like it is a normal afternoon.
She is loyal, proud and very direct. Where Thor is boastful and Loki is sly, Sif simply gets the job done. That steadiness makes her the friend Thor relies on when his own judgment fails.

Her biggest moments
Thor shows her at her best and at her most conflicted. When Thor is banished to Earth, Sif has to decide whether to obey the throne or follow her friend, and her choice says everything about her. She ends up in New Mexico, crossing paths with Jane Foster and her friends in one of the film's big action set pieces.
In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. she drops into the human world on missions of her own, which gives the series a welcome link to Asgard. Thor: The Dark World puts her back on the front lines, first in a battle across the Nine Realms and later in the fight to protect Asgard itself. It also hints, lightly, that she had hoped to be more than a friend to Thor. The Loki series later brings her back for one sharp scene with the God of Mischief.
After a long absence from the films, she resurfaces briefly in Love and Thunder, in a scene that reminds you how much she has been fighting off-screen. What If...? offers fun alternate takes but does not affect her main story.
Friends and companions
Thor is the center of her world, a childhood friend and battle partner. Jane Foster is the woman Thor falls for on Earth, and the two women's brief scenes in The Dark World have a quiet, awkward tension. Darcy Lewis, Jane's chatty assistant, is part of the New Mexico crowd Sif meets in the first film. Heimdall, the all-seeing guardian of the Bifrost, is a fellow Asgardian loyal to Thor, and he and Sif often stand on the same side when the throne makes bad decisions.
Jaimie Alexander as Sif
Jaimie Alexander plays Sif in the live-action films and the series. She is believable in the fight scenes, with real physical presence, but she also gives Sif a dry sense of humor that keeps her from feeling like a generic warrior. Her quick reactions to Thor and the Warriors Three are a small pleasure in both early films.
Outside Marvel, Alexander is best known as Jane Doe, the tattooed amnesiac at the center of the crime series Blindspot. Earlier, she played Jessi in Kyle XY.
