appearances

Agent 13, Peggy's niece

Sharon is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with an impressive family name. Her aunt is Peggy Carter, one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Steve Rogers's first love. Sharon keeps that connection quiet for a long time. She wants to be judged on her own work, not on her family history.

Her first assignment in the MCU is a sneaky one. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier she lives next door to Steve, posing as a nurse, while secretly keeping watch over him for Nick Fury.

Sharon's appearances in order

How her story turns

In The Winter Soldier, Sharon steps out of her cover when S.H.I.E.L.D. falls apart from the inside, and she proves she is loyal to the truth rather than the agency. Civil War opens a new chapter. After Peggy's funeral, where Sharon gives a moving eulogy and reveals the family link, she works for the CIA while the Sokovia Accords split the Avengers. She quietly helps Steve and Sam anyway, a choice that costs her dearly.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier picks up much later. Sharon is now a fugitive living in Madripoor, an island city run by criminals, and she has become a sharp, cynical operator who trusts almost nobody. The series hints that she has been busy in ways her old friends do not expect. We will leave it there.

The people in her orbit

Captain America (Steve Rogers) is the person she is first assigned to protect and later grows close to. Sam Wilson, who becomes the new Captain America, and Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, both owe her for the help she gave in Civil War, and in the series they have to decide how far to trust her. Brock Rumlow, later known as Crossbones, is a fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. operative in The Winter Soldier, and the two end up on opposite sides once the agency's secrets come out.

Emily VanCamp as Sharon

Emily VanCamp plays Sharon in the live-action titles. In the films she is cool and controlled, mostly reacting to the chaos around Steve. The series gives her more to do, and she leans into a harder, more sarcastic version of the character who clearly enjoys being underestimated.

Outside Marvel, VanCamp is best known for leading the revenge drama Revenge as Emily Thorne, for Everwood, and for the medical series The Resident.

The best order to watch Sharon

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  2. Captain America: Civil War
  3. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

This order follows both the story and the release dates. Civil War is the one to prioritize if time is short, since it explains why Sharon is on the run later. What If...? can be watched at any point after Civil War; it reimagines familiar events rather than continuing them. Our MCU characters list has more S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
