Who Namor is in the MCU
Namor is the ruler of Talokan, a hidden kingdom deep under the ocean, and his first MCU appearance is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel fans know him from the comics as the Sub-Mariner, one of the company's oldest heroes, but the film rebuilds him from the ground up. Here his roots are Mesoamerican, his people descend from a Maya community that fled to the sea, and his kingdom takes its name from Tlālōcān, a paradise in Aztec belief.
He is not a simple villain. Namor is proud, patient and very protective, and his choices make sense from where he stands. His people call him K'uk'ulkan, the feathered serpent god. His enemies use a darker name, and the film explains where it comes from.
Every Namor movie in order
The list is short, and that makes planning easy:
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), film, recommended on our list.
- Avengers: Doomsday (2026), film, essential and upcoming; its plot has not been announced.
Wakanda Forever is his only released appearance so far. He is no cameo here: Namor is the central antagonist.
Key moments, kept spoiler-light
The world wants vibranium, and once foreign powers start hunting for it under the sea, Talokan's secrecy is at risk. Namor's answer is to approach Wakanda, which has the same metal and the same reasons to fear outsiders. What starts as an offer turns into pressure, and Shuri ends up carrying much of that weight on her own.
His flashback is one of the highlights of the film. It shows how a boy born with unusual gifts became the protector of a people forced to hide. The small wings at his ankles and his speed in the water mark him as far stranger than most MCU rulers.
Characters tied to Namor
Our database lists no linked characters for him yet, so here is the short version from the film. Shuri is his most important counterpart; their back-and-forth drives the story. Queen Ramonda leads Wakanda against him, while Okoye, Nakia and M'Baku all have a stake in how the standoff ends. Riri Williams, the young inventor who later gets her own series, is the reason the conflict starts. Inside Talokan, his cousin Namora and the warrior Attuma stand at his side. You can browse their pages in our MCU character guide.
The actor: Tenoch Huerta Mejía
Tenoch Huerta Mejía plays Namor, and he gives the role a calm, almost gentle surface with real menace underneath. Much of the performance is in Spanish and Yucatec Maya, which makes Talokan feel like a living culture rather than a set.
Outside the MCU, many viewers know him from Narcos: Mexico, where he played the trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero. He also had a lead role in The Forever Purge and starred in the Mexican road film Güeros.
How to watch Namor's story
Watch Black Panther first. It sets up Shuri, Ramonda, Okoye and the rules of Wakanda, and without it the grief at the center of the sequel loses most of its weight. Then go straight to Wakanda Forever, and stay for the mid-credits scene.
Infinity War and Endgame are optional here. They explain what happened to Wakanda during the Blip, but the sequel tells you what you need. Plan for a long night, since the film is one of the longest in the MCU, and it streams on Disney Plus in the US. If you want to keep exploring once the credits roll, the full list of Marvel characters is a good next stop, and the movie page for Wakanda Forever covers its place in the timeline.
