Where to watch Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday is a theatrical release first. In the US it is dated for December 18, 2026, and that is the only way to see it at launch. Release dates for upcoming films can still move, so treat the date as the current plan rather than a promise.
Streaming comes later. Marvel films usually arrive on Disney Plus some months after their run in theaters, but no date has been announced for this one, and we will not guess. Once a streaming date or a country-by-country lineup is confirmed, the watch box on this page will show it.

Where Doomsday sits in the MCU
Avengers: Doomsday is the first of two team-up films that close out the Multiverse Saga in Phase 6. Our timeline lists VisionQuest right before it and Avengers: Secret Wars right after. Its exact place in story time has not been announced, so we keep it as TBA for now and will update the list once the film is out.
By release, the previous film is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Secret Wars follows. For the full lineup of the final phase, see our Marvel Phase 6 in order guide, and for the team-up films alone, our Avengers movies in order list shows how this one follows Endgame.
The two films that set it up
Our list names two prerequisites. The Fantastic 4: First Steps introduces Reed Richards and his family, who come from a different universe than the rest of the MCU. Thunderbolts* brings together a team of former villains and antiheroes, including Yelena Belova, and leaves them in a new position heading into Phase 6.
Both are recent, so if you watched them in theaters, a refresher is enough. For a wider catch-up across Phases 4 to 6, our Multiverse Saga in order guide lays out every title in one list.
Avengers: Doomsday explained (what is confirmed so far)
Very little, officially. The synopsis promises that heroes from three distinct universes are set on a collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they have encountered. That line alone tells you the film builds on the multiverse story the MCU has been running since Phases 4 and 5.
The title points at Doctor Doom, and the cast confirms it: Robert Downey Jr. is listed as Victor von Doom. Beyond that, the plot has not been announced, and we would rather not fill the gap with rumors. We will add a spoiler-free summary once the film is released.
What we can say is that it is essential. Secret Wars picks up from it, and it is the first new Avengers film since Endgame, which makes it the natural checkpoint for storylines that have run separately for years.
Cast and characters
Joe and Anthony Russo direct, returning to the Avengers series after Infinity War and Endgame. The biggest headline is Robert Downey Jr., now cast as Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark. Chris Evans is listed as Steve Rogers, and Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic. Paul Rudd is back as Scott Lang, and Anthony Mackie appears as Sam Wilson, now Captain America.
Our character tracker also lists Black Panther, Loki and Bucky Barnes among the faces tied to the film. How each of them fits into the story has not been announced.
Will there be a post-credit scene?
Marvel has not said anything about extra scenes for Doomsday, and nothing will be confirmed until the film reaches theaters. Given that Secret Wars follows directly, a scene that points ahead would fit the pattern of earlier Avengers films, but that is a habit, not a fact. Plan to stay through the credits on opening night and you will not miss anything.
Planning your catch-up
You have time before December, so pace it. Start with the two films above, then add titles that matter to the returning heroes: Avengers: Endgame for Steve and Thor, Loki for the rules of the multiverse, Captain America: Brave New World for Sam with the shield, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania for Scott. That is a comfortable few weekends of viewing.
