A lawyer first, a Hulk second
Jennifer Walters is a sharp, ambitious attorney in Los Angeles who would very much like to keep her life normal. Then a car accident with her cousin, Bruce Banner, leaves some of his blood in her system, and she discovers that she can turn into a towering green powerhouse.
What makes her different from Bruce is control. She keeps her personality, her intelligence and most of her calm when she transforms, which annoys Bruce no end. She also has zero interest in being an Avenger. She wants to win cases, date like a regular person and not be defined by a superhero name someone else gave her.
Her MCU appearance
- She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, optional on our timeline.
That is the full list for now. Because it is just one title, everything you need to know about Jennifer lives in this series.
What the series is like (spoiler-free)
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is a legal comedy with superpowers. After her transformation goes public, Jennifer is hired to lead a new superhuman law division, which means her clients include heroes, villains and people who are somewhere in between. Each episode mixes a case of the week with her personal life and her struggle to be taken seriously in either form.
The show's signature trick is breaking the fourth wall. Jennifer talks straight to the camera, comments on the plot and pokes fun at superhero storytelling, including Marvel's own habits. If you like your MCU self-aware, this is the most playful title on the timeline. If you prefer serious crossover stakes, it may not be for you, which is why we list it as optional.
Familiar faces around Jennifer
The series leans on several characters from the films and shows. Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo, trains her after the accident and gives the early episodes their buddy-comedy energy. Emil Blonsky, the Abomination from the earliest Hulk film, turns up as one of her clients, played again by Tim Roth. Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, drops in as well, and Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, appears later in the season. Titania, a social media celebrity with powers of her own, becomes her most persistent rival. Profiles for most of these faces are in our MCU character directory.
Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk
Tatiana Maslany plays Jennifer, both in human form and, through performance capture, as She-Hulk. She has great comic timing and keeps the fourth-wall moments warm instead of smug, which is harder than it looks. Her Jennifer feels like a real person stuck in an absurd situation.
Maslany is best known for Orphan Black, where she played a whole group of clones, often several in the same scene. She also appeared in the HBO series Perry Mason.
How to fit her into your watch order
You can watch She-Hulk: Attorney at Law with almost no homework, since the show explains her origin in the very first episode. It helps to know Bruce Banner from the Avengers films, and the Daredevil guest spot means more if you have seen Matt Murdock elsewhere, but neither is required.
A simple plan: watch the series any time after Avengers: Endgame, as a light palate cleanser between heavier titles. Our She-Hulk: Attorney at Law guide has runtime and streaming details. For other members of the Hulk family, browse the full Marvel character guide.
