A Loki who is not Loki
In the Loki series, the Time Variance Authority (TVA) arrests people who stray from the "sacred timeline" and erases the branches they create. Sylvie is one of those strays: a version of Loki, born in a different reality, who was taken by the TVA as a child and escaped. She has been hiding in doomed corners of time ever since, places where nobody will notice one more disappearance.
She does not like being called Loki. The new name is her own choice, and it says a lot about her. Where Tom Hiddleston's Loki has spent centuries performing for an audience, Sylvie has spent hers surviving alone. She is blunt, tired and very good at enchantment, a power that lets her take over other people's minds.
Her only appearance: Loki, both seasons
Sylvie's whole arc lives inside the Loki series, which is rated essential on our timeline. The show branches off from a scene in Avengers: Endgame, when a Loki from the past grabs the Tesseract and vanishes. That Loki is the one the TVA catches, and the hunt for a mysterious variant who keeps attacking TVA agents is how Sylvie enters the story.
Season one follows that chase. Season two moves her somewhere unexpected, to a quiet life far from the TVA, before pulling her back into its collapse. She shares nearly all of her big scenes with Loki and Mobius.
Turning points, kept light
Without spoiling the specifics: Sylvie's goal from the start is revenge on whoever built the TVA. Her bond with Loki complicates that plan, because he is the only person who truly understands what she has lost. The first season ends with a choice she makes on her own terms, and that choice splits open the multiverse the rest of the saga deals with.
The second season asks whether someone who has only ever run can learn to stay. It gives her a softer side and a few of the series' best quiet scenes.
Characters in her orbit
Loki is the obvious one: two versions of the same person, which makes their relationship strange and much debated by fans. Mobius, the TVA analyst played by Owen Wilson, starts as her enemy and ends up as an uneasy ally. Ravonna Renslayer, the TVA judge, is tied to the day Sylvie was taken. Hunter B-15 is the agent whose life Sylvie's power changes first. Each of them has a page in our list of MCU characters.
Sophia Di Martino
Di Martino is an English actor known for the dark British comedy-drama Flowers, and she also appeared in the Beatles-themed film Yesterday. She plays Sylvie with her own regional English accent instead of Hiddleston's polished delivery, a deliberate signal that this variant grew up in a very different world. Her Sylvie is guarded and sharp, but the cracks show early.
How to watch Sylvie's story
Watch Avengers: Endgame first, since Loki starts from one of its scenes. Then watch Loki season one and season two in order; Sylvie is in both, and the second season builds directly on the first. If you enjoy her, keep going with the rest of the Multiverse Saga, which grows out of what she does. Our MCU character guide covers the other variants and TVA agents.
