Where to watch Marvel's The Punisher
In the US, all 26 episodes are on Disney Plus, alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. That keeps the whole Netflix-era block in one app. Outside the US, availability varies by country; the watch box on this page shows the services we track for your region.
A quick content note before you start: this is the most violent of the Marvel TV shows from that era, with graphic fights and torture scenes. It is not a pick for a family movie night.
Punisher or Daredevil first?
Daredevil first. Marvel's Daredevil season 2 is the only real prerequisite: it introduces Frank Castle, shows what happened to his family and puts him on a collision course with Matt Murdock. The Punisher starts after those events and assumes you already know why he is so angry. Season 1 of Daredevil is not required for Frank's story, but it introduces Karen Page, who becomes one of the few people Frank trusts.
Where it fits in the Netflix watch order
If you are watching all the Netflix shows, place each Punisher season like this:
| Order | What to watch |
|---|
| Before season 1 | Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, Iron Fist season 1, The Defenders |
| Season 1 | Right after The Defenders |
| Between seasons | Jessica Jones season 2, Luke Cage season 2, Iron Fist season 2, Daredevil season 3 |
| Season 2 | Near the end of the Netflix run |
Frank does not appear in Marvel's The Defenders, so you can watch his show without it, but it fits best after. Our Marvel Netflix shows in order guide gives the full season-by-season list.
On our main timeline the Netflix shows sit between Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War, and The Punisher closes that block. Treat that spot as a convenience rather than a strict date: the films never reference these series, and Frank's story runs on its own clock.
What the series is about (no spoilers)
Frank Castle thinks his war is finished. He has killed the people he blamed for his family's murder and is working construction under a different name, trying to disappear. Then a hacker known as Micro reaches out with evidence that the story goes much deeper, back to a covert military operation Frank took part in overseas.
Season 1 is a conspiracy thriller more than a superhero show. There are no powers, just a former Marine, a homeland security agent named Dinah Madani who is chasing the same truth, and an old friend whose loyalties are not clear. Season 2 shifts gears, putting Frank between a new enemy and the consequences of season 1, with a road-trip feel in its early episodes.
Under the action, both seasons spend real time on veterans coming home: support groups, nightmares and the struggle to fit back into ordinary life. That gives the show more weight than its body count suggests.
Is it essential? Connections to the MCU
For the movies, no. You can follow the Avengers storyline without it. What makes it more relevant now is that Jon Bernthal has returned as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again and is part of the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If you want the full history of this version of the character, this is where most of it lives.
Watch it if you enjoyed Frank in Daredevil or like grounded military thrillers. Skip it if you prefer the brighter side of the MCU. For every Marvel series in one list, see our Marvel TV shows in order guide.
Cast and characters
Steve Lightfoot created and ran the series. Jon Bernthal leads as Frank Castle. Ben Barnes plays Billy Russo, Frank's former squadmate who now runs a private military company. Amber Rose Revah is Dinah Madani, and Jason R. Moore plays Curtis Hoyle, a veteran who leads a support group and acts as Frank's conscience. Ebon Moss-Bachrach is David Lieberman, the hacker called Micro, and Daniel Webber plays Lewis Wilson, a young veteran struggling to come home.
Runtime and viewing tips
Marvel's The Punisher has 2 seasons and 26 episodes, each around 53 minutes, which comes to roughly 23 hours in total. Two or three episodes a night gets you through a season in about a week, and the marathon plan can map the whole Netflix run onto your calendar.
