Who Kamala Khan is
Before she is a hero, Kamala is a superfan. She draws Avengers doodles in class, makes videos about Carol Danvers and dreams of going to AvengerCon in a homemade costume. She lives with a loving, slightly overprotective Pakistani American family, and much of her series is about the push and pull between being a good daughter and wanting a bigger life.
Her powers come from a bangle that once belonged to her great-grandmother. When she puts it on, she can create glowing, crystal-like hard light, which she shapes into shields, giant fists and stepping stones in the air. The show ties those powers to her family history and to the Partition of India, which gives her origin a weight most teen heroes do not have.
Her appearances in order
- Ms. Marvel (2022, series, recommended)
- The Marvels (2023, film, recommended)
- Marvel Zombies (2025, series, optional)
The first two form one connected story. Marvel Zombies is an animated series set in an alternate reality, so it does not continue her main timeline.
Big moments without the spoilers
Her series follows her from first powers to first real costume, with a trip to Karachi in the middle that reshapes how she sees her family. The ending reveals something about her that fans of the wider Marvel universe will find very interesting, and we will leave it at that.
The Marvels is where her dream comes true and then gets complicated. Her powers become linked with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau, so the three of them switch places whenever they use their abilities. Kamala finally meets her idol, then discovers that her idol is a lot messier in person. Watch the ending closely; it points toward what Kamala may do next.
In Marvel Zombies, a version of Kamala fights to survive a world overrun by the undead. It is darker and more violent than her live-action stories.
Friends, heroes and teammates
Her bond with Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) is the heart of The Marvels: fan meets hero, and neither is quite what the other expected. Monica Rambeau becomes a kind of big sister on that mission. Marvel Zombies surrounds her with other survivors, a group whose cast also includes Valkyrie and Shang-Chi. At home, her best friends Bruno and Nakia keep her grounded.
Iman Vellani in the role
Vellani was cast as a newcomer, and Ms. Marvel was her first major role. That works in the character's favor: her excitement on screen feels completely real, because she is a lifelong Marvel fan herself. She has a gift for fast, awkward comedy, and she can switch to genuine heartbreak in the family scenes without missing a beat. Because her career started here, she does not yet have well-known roles outside the MCU.
Which order to watch
Watch the Ms. Marvel series first. It introduces her family, her powers and her voice, and The Marvels assumes you already know all three. If you also want Monica's side of the team-up, WandaVision fills that in; our guide to Marvel TV shows in order shows where each series sits.
Then watch The Marvels. Keep Marvel Zombies for last and only if you enjoy horror; it is a fun what-if rather than part of Kamala's main story.
