Where to watch Marvel Zombies
Marvel Zombies is a Disney Plus series, and in the US the complete four-episode run is on the service, along with What If...? and the rest of Marvel's animated shows. That makes it easy to watch the zombie episode of What If...? as a warm-up and go straight into the series. Outside the US, availability varies, so check the watch box on this page.
What to watch before Marvel Zombies
The essential lead-in is What If...?, specifically the fifth episode of its first season, which imagines a reality where a plague turns the Avengers into flesh-eating zombies. Marvel Zombies returns to that world some time later. You can follow the basics without it, but you will miss who survived, who did not, and why a few familiar faces are missing.
Live-action context helps too, because several survivors are variants of heroes from recent projects:
| Title | Why it helps | Needed? |
|---|
| What If...? season 1, episode 5 | Shows how the outbreak began | Yes |
| Ms. Marvel | Introduces Kamala Khan | Helpful |
| Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings | Introduces Shang-Chi and Katy | Helpful |
| Thunderbolts* | Yelena and the Red Guardian | Helpful |
Where it sits in the watch order
Marvel Zombies premiered in September 2025. We list it at the very end of our order, together with the other animated series that take place outside the main timeline, so it comes right after Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. That position is about grouping, not plot. Because the story takes place in an alternate reality, nothing in the main MCU depends on it, and you can watch it whenever you like once What If...? is done. Our Marvel TV shows in order guide shows the whole lineup, and the Marvel Phase 5 in order page places it among the other series and films of that period.
Marvel Zombies explained: the world and the survivors
The zombie outbreak has already won. Most of Earth's heroes are now part of a hungry undead horde, and the world they were supposed to protect is in ruins. A small band of survivors, younger heroes and a few unlikely allies, learns there may be a way to end the plague for good.
Getting there means crossing wrecked cities and empty highways full of super-powered zombies while being hunted by something even worse. Wanda Maximoff, now ruling as the Red Queen, is a big part of that danger. The survivors include Kamala Khan, Shang-Chi, Katy, Yelena Belova and the Red Guardian, a group that would never share a live-action story. Expect dark humor, real losses and far more gore than the usual Disney Plus animation.
The series moves fast. With only four episodes, there is little time for setup, and characters are introduced on the run. That pace suits the story, which feels more like a road movie through a ruined world than a slow survival drama, and it means the show rarely drags.
Is Marvel Zombies essential?
No, it is optional. It does not feed into any upcoming movie on our list, and its reality is sealed off from the main timeline. Watch it if you enjoyed the zombie episode of What If...?, if you like horror, or if you want to see familiar heroes pushed into a story where anyone can die.
Voice cast
Many of the voices come from the live-action films. Iman Vellani voices Kamala Khan, Simu Liu is Shang-Chi and Awkwafina returns as Katy Chen. David Harbour voices Alexei Shostakov, the Red Guardian, and Elizabeth Olsen plays Wanda as the Red Queen. Todd Williams voices Blade Knight. Bryan Andrews, a director on What If...?, directs.
Viewing tips and runtime
There are four episodes of about 34 minutes each, so the whole series runs a little over two hours, about the length of one movie. That makes it a natural single-night watch, ideally right after the What If...? episode. Keep the younger kids away, though: this is the bloodiest Marvel animation so far on our list. If you are fitting it into a longer animated run, the marathon plan can build the schedule.
