Where to watch Echo
In the US, Echo streams on Disney Plus, and all five episodes arrived at once, so there is no waiting between chapters. Hawkeye, Marvel's Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again are in the same app, which makes it easy to watch the whole street-level thread in one go.
Outside the US, availability varies by country. Check the watch box on this page for the services listed in your region. One thing to know before pressing play: Echo carries a mature rating and is more violent than most Disney Plus Marvel shows, so it is not a good pick for younger kids.
What to watch before Echo
The essential homework is Hawkeye. Maya is introduced there as the leader of a criminal crew, hunting the masked vigilante she blames for her father's death, and the show ends with a shot that sets up this whole series. Echo opens with a quick recap of those events, but it lands much better if you have seen them.
Marvel's Daredevil is useful too. Matt Murdock appears in the first episode, and knowing who Wilson Fisk is and what he has done adds weight to every scene he is in. You do not need to finish all three seasons for that.
| Title | Needed? | Why |
|---|
| Hawkeye | Yes | Maya's debut and her history with Fisk |
| Marvel's Daredevil | Helpful | Fisk's past and Matt's style of fighting |
| Anything else | No | Echo stands apart from the cosmic stories |
Echo watch order on the timeline
On our timeline, Echo follows The Marvels, a cosmic team-up with no plot link, and comes before Deadpool & Wolverine, another story that has nothing to do with Maya. Its story is set in 2026. The title that matters most afterward is Daredevil: Born Again, which picks up Fisk's story from the last minutes of Echo's finale.
All five episodes premiered together in January 2024 as part of Phase 5. Our Marvel Phase 5 in order guide shows where it sits among the other releases of that stretch.
What the series is about (no spoilers)
After the events of Hawkeye, Maya Lopez is on the run from Fisk's criminal empire in New York. She heads home to Tamaha, Oklahoma, the small Choctaw town where she grew up and where she still has family she has not spoken to in years. Her plan is to build a base and strike back at Fisk. Her family has other ideas.
The show mixes street-level crime with a story about heritage and belonging. Maya is deaf, and the series uses sign language throughout, often with no spoken dialogue at all.
Echo explained: the flashbacks and the ending
The most common question about Echo is why each episode opens somewhere else in time. Those cold opens follow women from Maya's family line across Choctaw history, from the story of the first people to later generations. They are not side trips. Each one shows a woman with a gift tied to her community, and together they explain where Maya's own abilities come from and why the series treats them as an inheritance rather than a superpower.
Without spoiling the details, the finale resolves Maya's fight with Fisk in a way that depends on family rather than fists. It also leaves Kingpin in a very specific position as the credits approach, and Daredevil: Born Again starts from exactly there. If the ending feels open, that is because the next chapter of Fisk's story happens in another show.
Is it essential?
We mark it optional. Nothing in the movies depends on it, and the main Avengers story continues without it. It matters mostly for the street-level corner of the MCU. If you plan to watch Born Again, give these five episodes a few hours first.
Cast and characters
Sydney Freeland directs. Alaqua Cox returns as Maya Lopez, also known as Echo, and she plays the role with real physical presence. Chaske Spencer is Henry "Black Crow" Lopez, Maya's uncle and a man caught between family and crime. Tantoo Cardinal plays her grandmother Chula, and Graham Greene is her grandfather Skully. Devery Jacobs plays Bonnie, Maya's cousin, and Cody Lightning is Biscuits, a cousin with a big heart and little sense of danger.
Runtime and how to fit it in
Echo has 1 season of 5 episodes, each running about 43 minutes. That is roughly three and a half hours, easy to finish in a single evening or across two short nights. A good street-level weekend: Hawkeye's final two episodes on Friday, Echo on Saturday, and the first episodes of Born Again on Sunday.
