Where to watch Deadpool & Wolverine
In the US the film streams on Disney Plus with a regular subscription. If you share an account with kids, the parental controls in the app are worth a look, because this one earns its rating with graphic violence and nonstop swearing.
Outside the US, availability varies by country. Disney Plus carries the film in many regions, but licensing differs, so check the watch box on this page for the services listed where you live.
Deadpool & Wolverine watch order: what to see first
The one MCU prerequisite is Loki. Wade's whole problem starts when the TVA picks him up, and the film assumes you understand what that agency does and what happens to timelines it decides to prune. Season 1 is the important part; season 2 helps but is not required.
Next comes the old Fox universe. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 set up Wade's personality, his friends and his long-running grudges. Logan gives you the version of Wolverine whose ending the film keeps joking about. None of these are MCU movies, so they are not on our main list, but they make the jokes and the emotional beats land much harder.
| Priority | Title | Why it helps |
|---|
| Must | Loki (season 1) | Explains the TVA and the Void |
| Strongly helps | Deadpool 2 | Wade's friends and tone |
| Helps | Logan | The Wolverine legacy the film plays with |
| Nice extra | Deadpool | Wade's origin |
Our guide to X-Men and Deadpool in Marvel order shows how all the Fox films sit next to the MCU if you want the full picture.
Where it sits on the MCU timeline
On our timeline the film comes after Echo, a street-level series with no plot link, and before Agatha All Along, the WandaVision follow-up. In release order it lands between The Marvels and Captain America: Brave New World. Released in July 2024, it was the only MCU movie that year, and it belongs to Phase 5; our Marvel Phase 5 in order guide lists everything around it.
Because so much of the plot happens outside the main timeline, its story slot matters less than usual. What matters is having Loki done first.
What it is about (spoiler-free)
Wade Wilson has hung up the suit and is stuck in a dead-end job, mostly because his attempt to become an Avenger did not go the way he hoped. When the TVA tells him his world is about to end, Wade decides the only fix is a Wolverine. The problem is that the best one available is a bitter, broken variant who wants nothing to do with him.
Together they end up in the Void, a dumping ground for pruned realities ruled by Cassandra Nova. Expect fourth-wall breaks, affectionate jabs at Disney and Fox, and a pile of surprise appearances. Under the jokes, it is a story about two failures getting one more chance.
Deadpool & Wolverine post-credit scenes
There are two things to stay for, and neither gives the plot away. Right as the credits begin, a montage of behind-the-scenes footage pays tribute to the Fox Marvel era, from the early X-Men films onward. It is a love letter rather than a story beat, and long-time fans tend to find it the most moving part of the night.
The second scene comes at the very end of the credits. It is a short comic gag in which one of the film's surprise guests gets the last word. It does not set up a future movie, so you will not miss story information if you leave early, but it is a fun final laugh.
How important is it?
We rate it recommended. It brings Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU for the first time and confirms that the old Fox characters now have a place in the Multiverse Saga. The main Avengers storyline does not hinge on it, so you can skip it without losing track. If you care about how the X-Men are joining this universe, it belongs near the top of your list.
Cast and characters
Shawn Levy directs. Ryan Reynolds is Wade Wilson, along with a cheerful variant called Nicepool, and Hugh Jackman returns as Logan. Emma Corrin plays Cassandra Nova, the psychic villain who controls the Void. Matthew Macfadyen is Mr. Paradox, an ambitious TVA agent. Dafne Keen is back as Laura, also known as X-23, and Jon Favreau has a small, very funny turn as Happy Hogan.
Runtime and viewing tips
Deadpool & Wolverine runs 128 minutes, a little over two hours, plus a few minutes for the credits. A Loki season 1 binge the weekend before makes a natural double feature, and a rewatch of Deadpool 2 on the same night is a good warm-up if you want the jokes fresh.
