Where to watch Secret Invasion and how long it is
In the US, Secret Invasion streams on Disney Plus, where Captain Marvel and The Marvels also live. Outside the US, availability varies by country, so check the watch box on this page for your local services.
The series has 6 episodes of about 44 minutes each, roughly four and a half hours in total. That is easy to finish over a weekend, or in three evenings of two episodes. The pace is slow and conversation-heavy, so watching it in a few longer sittings helps the tension build.
What to watch before Secret Invasion
Captain Marvel is the only real prerequisite. It introduces the Skrulls, shows how Fury met Talos in the 1990s, and sets up the promise Carol Danvers made to find the refugees a new home. Secret Invasion is built on that broken promise, so that film matters more here than any Avengers movie.
Two more titles help. Avengers: Endgame explains the Blip, which shapes Fury's state of mind, and the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home reveals that Fury has been working off-world while Talos covered for him. Neither is strictly required, but both make the opening episode clearer.
| Title | Why it helps | Needed? |
|---|
| Captain Marvel | Skrulls, Talos and Fury's promise | Yes |
| Avengers: Endgame | The Blip and the world Fury returns to | Helpful |
| Spider-Man: Far From Home | Where Fury has been hiding | Helpful |
Where it fits in the watch order
In our story order the series follows Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and comes before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In release order it arrived in June 2023, early in Phase 5, and those neighbors share nothing with it beyond timing. Our Marvel Phase 5 in order guide lists every Phase 5 movie and series in sequence if you want the bigger picture.
Secret Invasion explained: the setup without spoilers
Talos contacts an old friend with bad news. A radical group of Skrulls led by Gravik has been hiding inside human institutions for years, wearing the faces of officials, soldiers and even people close to Fury. They have stopped waiting for the home Earth's heroes promised them and want to take this planet instead.
Fury comes back older, tired and without his usual safety net. The Avengers are not on call, and he cannot trust anyone he sees, since any face could belong to a Skrull. The show plays as a paranoid spy thriller more than a superhero story, with tense conversations doing most of the work and only a few big action set pieces. Its central question is personal: what does Fury owe the Skrulls, and what has he lost by keeping them secret?
Does Secret Invasion have a post-credit scene?
No. None of the six episodes include a scene during or after the credits, so you can stop or move on as soon as they start rolling. The big reveals all happen inside the episodes themselves, which is worth knowing if you usually skip the opening and closing minutes.
Is Secret Invasion essential?
We mark it as optional. Its biggest consequence for later titles is where it leaves Fury, which feeds directly into The Marvels. It also hides a major turn for James Rhodes, War Machine, that changes how you see his recent appearances. If you skip it, a short recap of the ending is enough to follow the films that come after.
It is worth your time if you have followed Nick Fury since the early films and want a darker, slower story centered on him. Viewers looking for cosmic action and a lot of cameos will likely find it thin.
Cast and characters
Kyle Bradstreet heads the series. Samuel L. Jackson leads as Fury, with more screen time than the character has had anywhere else in the MCU. Ben Mendelsohn returns as Talos, the Skrull leader who has spent decades as Fury's quiet ally. Kingsley Ben-Adir plays Gravik, a commander with a real grievance, and Killian Scott is his lieutenant Pagon. Samuel Adewunmi appears as Beto, and Dermot Mulroney plays President Ritson, a world leader under pressure who has no idea who in his circle is human.
What to watch after Secret Invasion
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes next on our timeline, though it is unrelated. For Fury's story, The Marvels is the follow-up that matters. TV-first viewers can find the next show in our Marvel TV shows in order list, and the marathon plan shows how this short season fits into a longer Phase 5 run.
