Where to watch WandaVision
In the US, WandaVision streams on Disney Plus and Hulu. Outside the US, availability varies by country, so check the watch box on this page for the services in your region. As a Disney Plus original, it is usually easiest to find there first.
The show has one season of 9 episodes at roughly 40 minutes each, about six hours in total. Weekly release made the mystery a talking point when it first aired, but binging works just as well now. A comfortable plan is three episodes a night over three evenings, which also lines up nicely with the show's own shifts in tone.
What to watch before WandaVision
Avengers: Endgame is the one true prerequisite. The series is set in 2023, shortly after that film, and it assumes you know exactly what Wanda lost along the way.
A few earlier titles make it richer, though none of them are required:
| Title | What it adds |
|---|
| Avengers: Age of Ultron | Introduces Wanda and Vision |
| Captain America: Civil War | Builds their relationship |
| Avengers: Infinity War | Tests it to the breaking point |
| Captain Marvel | Shows Monica Rambeau as a child |
| Ant-Man and the Wasp | Introduces FBI agent Jimmy Woo |
| Thor and Thor: The Dark World | Introduce Darcy Lewis |
The supporting rows are bonus context. The show explains who Monica, Jimmy and Darcy are as they appear, so a newcomer who has only seen the Avengers films will still keep up.
WandaVision in the MCU watch order
In our story order WandaVision comes after What If...?, the animated anthology, and before The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. By release, it opened Phase 4 of the Multiverse Saga in January 2021. Our Marvel Phase 4 in order guide shows it alongside every other film and series from that phase, which helps if you are planning a full run.
WandaVision explained, without spoilers
Wanda Maximoff and Vision are newlyweds in a picture-perfect suburb called Westview. Each episode looks like a sitcom from a different decade, starting in black and white with a laugh track and moving forward in time. The couple tries hard to fit in, especially around a nosy neighbor named Agnes. Small details keep slipping, though: a splash of color where there should not be one, a voice on the radio, a neighbor who forgets her lines.
The simplest way to put it: the sitcom is a cover for something much sadder. The show reveals what is really happening slowly, and its shift from comedy to grief is the reason people still talk about it. If the early episodes leave you puzzled, that is on purpose. Answers start arriving around the middle of the season, and the fake commercials sprinkled through the episodes are worth watching closely.
WandaVision post-credit scenes
Stay through the finale's credits. There are two extra scenes, one partway through the credits and one at the very end. The first points Monica Rambeau toward her next story, and the second offers a first look at where Wanda is headed. Both feed straight into later titles, so do not close the app early.
Why WandaVision is essential
WandaVision is where Wanda Maximoff becomes the Scarlet Witch, and that change drives Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It also starts Monica Rambeau down the road to The Marvels and introduces Agatha Harkness, who gets her own series in Agatha All Along. White Vision, created here, leads VisionQuest. Few Disney Plus shows have this many direct follow-ups, which is why it appears on our essential Marvel movies and shows list.
Cast and characters
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany lead as Wanda and Vision, and both get more room to act than any film ever gave them. Kathryn Hahn plays Agnes, the neighbor who is always dropping by, and steals most of her scenes. Teyonah Parris is Monica Rambeau, now grown up, while Randall Park returns as FBI agent Jimmy Woo and Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis. Jac Schaeffer created the series.
What to watch after WandaVision
Story order sends you to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier next, a much more grounded show about Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. If you would rather follow Wanda, jump ahead to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and save Agatha All Along and VisionQuest for when you reach them.
