Where to watch Avengers: Endgame
In the US, Avengers: Endgame streams on Disney Plus, alongside Infinity War and the rest of the saga. That makes it easy to watch the two-part finale back to back. Outside the US, availability varies by country, and the watch box on this page lists the current services where you are.
At 181 minutes, about three hours, Endgame is the longest film in the Infinity Saga. Plan a break around the halfway mark if you need one; the shift from the second act to the final battle is a natural spot.
What to watch before Avengers: Endgame
Three films are prerequisites, and each covers a different piece of the setup.
Infinity War is non-negotiable. The other two can be watched in any order before it. Beyond these three, Endgame rewards everything you have seen: the more of the saga you know, the more of its callbacks land. If you are short on time, our essential Marvel movies and shows list gives you the shortest route that still makes every big moment work.
Where Endgame falls in the watch order
Endgame opens in 2018, in the immediate aftermath of Infinity War, and then moves forward to 2023. That double setting is why it sits at the very end of the Infinity Saga in both release and story order. It reached theaters in April 2019 as the last Avengers film of Phase 3.
Next on our timeline is Helstrom, an optional horror series with no links to the films, and then Loki. Loki starts from a moment Endgame revisits during the original Battle of New York, so you need this film first to understand it. Among films, Spider-Man: Far From Home comes next and deals with the aftermath. Our Avengers movies in order guide shows how the team-ups line up from the first film to Doomsday.
Avengers: Endgame explained (spoiler-free)
The universe has taken a terrible loss. The surviving Avengers are scattered and grieving, some throwing themselves into work and others giving up on it altogether. Steve Rogers wants to try again; Tony Stark is not sure there is anything left to try. When an unexpected opportunity appears, the team has to decide whether to risk what little they still have for a chance to undo the damage.
Without giving anything away: the first act is slow and quiet on purpose, the middle is a clever trip through earlier MCU films, and the final hour is the battle the whole saga has been building toward. That middle section is where your earlier viewing pays off most, since it revisits places and moments you will recognize.
Avengers: Endgame post credit scene
There is no traditional extra scene. Unlike most Infinity Saga films, Endgame has no mid-credits or end-credits sequence, which suits a finale. The main cast credits are worth watching anyway, since they work as a farewell to the original team.
At the very end of the full credits, a brief sound plays over a black screen. It is a nod to where this whole story began, and fans who know the first Iron Man will recognize it. There is nothing new to see, so you can stop once it plays.
Why it is essential
Endgame pays off more than a decade of storylines, and nearly every Phase 4 and 5 title assumes you have seen it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Hawkeye, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Loki all pick up from its consequences. If you plan to keep watching after the Infinity Saga, this is the one film you cannot skip. For a full map of Phase 3 leading up to it, see our Marvel Phase 3 in order guide.
Cast and characters
Anthony and Joe Russo direct for the fourth time. Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark and Chris Evans is Steve Rogers, and this film is built around the two of them. Mark Ruffalo plays Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth is Thor, Scarlett Johansson is Natasha Romanoff, and Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton gets a much bigger story after sitting out Infinity War. His opening scene sets the tone for the whole first act.
