The essential: Spider-Man: No Way Home
Brand New Day's whole setup comes from the last act of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Without spoiling the details, that film ends with a decision that changes Peter's life completely. The official synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day starts from exactly that point: Peter fighting crime full-time, forgotten by everyone, watching his old friends move on without him.
If you watch only one film, make it this one. Rewatching it right before Brand New Day is even better, because its closing stretch is what you will want fresh.
The shortest route
One film: No Way Home. That gets you into Brand New Day knowing why Peter is alone and why the people around him act as if they have never met him.
It is not a perfect route, though. No Way Home leans on earlier films itself, so a viewer who skipped everything else will follow the basics but miss the emotional weight. With one more evening, add Spider-Man: Far From Home, whose final scene sets up No Way Home directly.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day watch order, full route
For the complete Tom Holland story, go in this order:
- Captain America: Civil War, where Peter first appears
- Spider-Man: Homecoming
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Avengers: Endgame
- Spider-Man: Far From Home
- Spider-Man: No Way Home
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Do not skip the two Avengers films; they matter more than people expect. Far From Home opens in the world Endgame leaves behind, and Peter's bond with Tony Stark runs through all of these films.
Here is what each step adds:
| Title | Why it matters for Brand New Day |
|---|---|
| Captain America: Civil War | Peter's first meeting with Tony Stark and the Avengers |
| Spider-Man: Homecoming | His life in Queens, his friends and his first solo villain |
| Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame | The losses that shape who Peter becomes |
| Spider-Man: Far From Home | The ending that exposes his secret |
| Spider-Man: No Way Home | The choice that leaves him forgotten |
Which films to prioritize if you are short on time
Not every step carries equal weight. If you have three evenings rather than seven, watch Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home. Those three are Peter's own trilogy and hold the relationships Brand New Day keeps returning to. Endgame is the fourth pick, because it explains why Peter feels the loss of a mentor so keenly.
Civil War and Infinity War are the easiest to drop. Peter is a supporting player in both, and the solo films recap enough of what happens to him there.
Watching with someone new to Spider-Man
Bringing along a friend who has never seen these films? Start them on Homecoming rather than Civil War. It introduces Peter properly, and the few references to his Civil War debut are easy to explain in a sentence. From there, follow the full route in order.
If they only have one evening before Brand New Day, No Way Home is still the pick. Just warn them that it assumes they already know Peter's friends, Aunt May and his history with Tony Stark.
Saw Brand New Day first?
Plenty of people went to the theater before catching up, and that is fine. Going back now works in the same order as above. You will know where Peter ends up, but the earlier films show how he got there, and several of his relationships land harder once you have seen them start. Homecoming and No Way Home are the two to put first.
The older Spider-Man films
No Way Home reaches back to the Spider-Man films made before the MCU, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the title role. Those films are not on our list, since they come from a different continuity, but seeing at least the first film of each makes No Way Home far more rewarding. Treat them as background for No Way Home rather than homework for Brand New Day.
Why this order
This film is a direct continuation, not a fresh start. The route above simply follows Peter's life: he joins the Avengers, loses his mentor, has his identity exposed and then gives up the life he had. Each film hands its consequences to the next, which is why jumping around causes confusion.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the animated series, is a separate take on the character, so it does not belong on this route. Our Marvel TV shows in order guide shows where it fits.
What to watch after Brand New Day
Brand New Day is part of Phase 6. Next on our timeline comes VisionQuest, followed by Avengers: Doomsday, the first of the two Avengers films that close the Multiverse Saga. Doomsday is dated for later in 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is set for 2027, so there is time to catch up on the rest of the saga in between.
The MCU chronological order lays out the rest of the phase, and our list of all Marvel movies in order places every Spider-Man film among the rest of the franchise.
