Holland's Peter Parker first appears in Captain America: Civil War, so that is the real starting point. Release order and story order are the same for these films, which keeps things simple.

Spider-Man Marvel Movies in Order

Spider-Man movies in order: the short list

These are the titles on this page, in the order to watch them:

  1. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Peter's first solo film as a high school student juggling homework and a new suit.
  2. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), a school trip to Europe that turns into something much bigger.
  3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the multiverse story that changes Peter's life for good.
  4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), which picks up after the ending of No Way Home.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2025) is the animated series. It sits outside this run, and we explain why further down.

Start one step before Homecoming

Peter's MCU debut comes before his own films, in Captain America: Civil War. Tony Stark recruits him for a fight at an airport, and Homecoming opens with Peter replaying that day on his phone. You can follow Homecoming without Civil War, yet the film makes far more sense when you know why Peter is so desperate to impress Tony.

So the proper route is Civil War, then Homecoming. Skipping it is the most common mistake people make with this character.

The full Tom Holland route, with the Avengers films

Between Homecoming and Far From Home sit Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Far From Home is set in the world those two films leave behind, and it opens with Peter grieving a mentor. Jump straight from Homecoming to Far From Home and the first few minutes feel like a puzzle with missing pieces.

OrderTitleWhy it is here
1Captain America: Civil WarPeter's first appearance and his link to Tony Stark
2Spider-Man: HomecomingHis first solo film
3Avengers: Infinity WarPeter joins the fight against Thanos
4Avengers: EndgameSets up the world of Far From Home
5Spider-Man: Far From HomePeter steps out of Tony's shadow
6Spider-Man: No Way HomeThe multiverse arrives in Queens
7Spider-Man: Brand New DayPeter starts over

That is seven films, and every one of them matters for his story. If you want to see where they sit among everything else Marvel has made, our list of all Marvel movies in order places them on the full film list.

No Way Home and the older Spider-Man films

No Way Home is a multiverse story. Without spoiling much, it reaches back to the Spider-Man films made outside the MCU, starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Those films are not on our list, because they are not part of Marvel Studios' continuity, but seeing them first makes No Way Home far more rewarding.

If you want the full background, watch them in this order:

  • Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, the Tobey Maguire trilogy
  • The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Andrew Garfield films

Short on time? Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are the two that pay off most. Doctor Strange also plays a big part in No Way Home. You do not need his solo film, though it gives helpful context.

Who are Peter 1, 2 and 3?

Those nicknames come from No Way Home itself, where three Peter Parkers need a quick way to tell each other apart. Tom Holland is Peter 1, Tobey Maguire is Peter 2 and Andrew Garfield is Peter 3. Knowing that before you watch spoils very little, since the film plays it as a running joke more than a twist.

Where the animated series fits

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a separate take on Peter Parker's early days, told in animation and with its own version of his history. It is not a prequel to Homecoming, even though it borrows some of the same ideas, such as a mentor figure who changes Peter's life. Watch it whenever you like, or skip it if you only care about Holland's films. Fans of the comics may find it the most playful entry on the page.

What Brand New Day picks up from

Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows the ending of No Way Home. Its official synopsis describes Peter fighting crime full-time in a world that does not remember him. That is all you need going in. No Way Home is the one film you truly cannot skip before it, and our MCU chronological order shows where it lands on the wider timeline.

Stay for the credits scenes

Holland's films use their credits scenes to hand the story forward, so do not switch off early. The mid-credits scene of Far From Home is the big one: it sets up the opening of No Way Home almost directly, and skipping it makes that film's first act harder to follow. Homecoming has its own teaser too, with a short prison exchange that hints at a future villain. Treat these scenes as part of the movie rather than a bonus.

Quick answers to common worries

Do you need the Venom films or other Sony projects? No. They sit apart from this list, and Holland's films do not depend on them.

Is the trilogy watchable on its own, without any other Marvel film? Mostly, but you will spend a lot of time asking who certain characters are. Civil War plus the two Avengers films fills those gaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

In what order should I watch the Spider-Man movies?

For Tom Holland's version, watch Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The animated series can be watched at any point.

Do I need to watch Civil War before Homecoming?

It is strongly recommended. Peter Parker's first MCU appearance is in Captain America: Civil War, and Homecoming opens by looking back at those events.

Why do I need Infinity War and Endgame before Far From Home?

Far From Home is set in the months after Avengers: Endgame and deals with what that film left behind. Peter's mood, the state of the world and several jokes all depend on knowing how Endgame ends.

Should I watch the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield films before No Way Home?

Yes, if you can. No Way Home connects to those earlier Spider-Man films, and the payoff is much stronger when you know them, even if you only watch Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Who is Peter 1, 2 and 3 in No Way Home?

Those labels come from No Way Home itself, where the three Peter Parkers need a quick way to tell each other apart. Peter 1 is Tom Holland, Peter 2 is Tobey Maguire and Peter 3 is Andrew Garfield.

What should I watch before Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the essential one, because Brand New Day follows its ending. Watching the earlier Holland films first gives Peter's situation much more weight.

Is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man connected to Tom Holland's films?

No, it is a separate animated version of Peter Parker's early years. It shares the spirit of the MCU films but tells its own story, so it is optional.

Are the Venom movies part of the Spider-Man watch order?

No, the Venom films come from Sony and are not part of this list. You can skip them and still follow every Holland Spider-Man film without trouble.

Are the Spider-Verse animated movies part of this order?

No, the Spider-Verse films are a separate animated series from Sony with their own continuity. They are worth seeing on their own terms, but nothing in Holland's films depends on them.
